My biggest pet peeve when I comes to how us guys dress has got to be the staple jeans and t-shirt look. Yes, there are the chosen few who actually pull it off, but as for the rest of us, we look so bland and mundane. No one would bother stealing a second glance.
So on this post, I’ll show you guys two alternatives to the jeans and t-shirt look.
For the first look, I went for a more polished outfit. Something you’d wear on a first date. I wore fitted black jeans a knitted sweater and beige high tops. I’m really into knits this time of the year. This particular piece is both warm and airy, which is a good thing given how El-niño has trolled us a good one and we can’t really tell what to expect.
When choosing a sweater, you should go for a color, fit and pattern that will fit right into your current wardrobe. If it’s your first sweater, go for a solid color like grey, brown or black. Solid colors will be easier to pair with any choice of pants. Another important thing to keep in mind when choosing a sweater are the proportions. A fitting sweater should be paired up with fitting pants, and a chunky sweater should go with pants with a more loose fit. You don’t want to look like you skip leg days at the gym. Unless of course that’s the look you’re going for Johnny Bravo.
For the second outfit, I went for a more laid back outfit. Something you’d wear on a night out with the boys. I kept the beige high tops and black jeans, but substituted the sweater with a white t-shirt and a fitting zip-top hoodie. I’d advice you guys to have atleast two plain white tees (see what I did there) in your wardrobe. Both a crew neck and a v-neck. I’ve come to realize that a plain white tshirt is the most versatile capsule piece in a man’s wardrobe.
So there you have it. That’s the way you transform your usual casual look into a killer look by just paying attention to little details. You should have noticed that on the second look I actually wore jeans and a t-shirt but the beaded neck piece and the hoodie completely changed things up. Just a little more effort is what is required. Let’s not be boring.
